Privacy is an integral component of digital governance. As digital risk landscape evolves, organizations must constantly evaluate how they handle data management processes to remain current with this ever-evolving environment.
Governance forms the backbone of an effective data management system: classification leads to control, which in turn produces auditability – evidence of compliance for which auditability serves as evidence. Privacy requirements provide narrower restrictions that govern how specific classes of personal and sensitive data should be managed within this system.
Governance requires the establishment of a dedicated privacy team to oversee program execution, regulatory liaison, and board reporting. This team should remain independent from IT or product teams that may prioritize speed over protection.
