Electric vehicles (EVs) tend to have much lower maintenance costs than their traditional gasoline counterparts, according to multiple studies. On average, they tend to cost 30-50% less to keep on the road, since EVs don’t require transmission services or spark plug replacements and avoid catastrophic engine failures that plague older gas cars.

Battery maintenance and replacement remain one of the biggest worries for new EV drivers, but costs have been gradually decreasing and are often covered by manufacturer warranties. Even repairs outside warranty have become more affordable thanks to cheaper batteries as well as increasing availability of refurbished and modular-level models.

As with other cars, EVs require regular maintenance such as tire replacement and windscreen repair. Due to their lighter weight and regenerative braking features, the tyres often last longer on electric vehicles, but extra power may contribute to faster wear in some instances. Check your tyres frequently and rotate them regularly so they last as long as possible; similarly, brake pads need replacing less often on an EV than gas-powered vehicles.
