Energy Efficiency and Energy Policy

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is one of the cheapest and simplest ways to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels and lower electricity costs. This involves eliminating energy waste in buildings, homes and businesses as well as using smarter grid systems to lower our electricity demand, eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, and decrease water use.

Many strategies exist for increasing energy efficiency, from building design and construction to minimizing standby power usage in consumer electronics. But simply installing technologies won’t suffice – energy efficiency also requires changing habits and breaking down cultural barriers.

ACEEE is engaged in numerous initiatives. Within the buildings sector, we advocate for an energy efficiency strategy that incorporates insulation, appliances, lighting and other systems as a whole in terms of energy savings. Furthermore, we support using renewables with on-site energy storage to create net zero buildings which help lower utility prices while simultaneously decreasing demand; such measures may be funded via federal, state, local or utility incentives and also offer resilience against changing electricity rates and weather conditions.
