The Future City Incubator has launched its open call for proposals for its first Smart City Startups Incubator. Organizers of Smart City Start-ups say it is now time to offer the city the opportunity for the first – of its kind – start-up program in the United States. Sources: 10, 15

The program will award up to $10,000 in grants for the first two years of the program and $5,500 for each year thereafter. The Future City Incubator’s first – or its – type of start-up program is open to start-ups in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Sources: 0, 15

The selected startups will receive a full registration exemption and the opportunity to present themselves at the Smart Cities Connect Conference and Expo. They include access to a $10,000 scholarship and up to $5,500 in grants for the first two years of the program, as well as a one-time $500 scholarship for each year after that. Smart cities are not based on a particular platform or concept, but are evolving to better integrate new technologies and ideas. As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes smart cities and urban planning, we need to better understand what can be done to preserve the uniqueness of the existing ecosystem and what makes a startup city a good city for entrepreneurs, “Valuer explains.
